This 6 Days Marangu Route Hike takes place along the famous Marangu Route at Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. The Marangu Route is the most famous route to the summit of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro (Uhuru Peak). It is also referred to as the “Coca-Cola Route” and includes comfortable hut accommodations compared to the other routes with rugged camping sites.

Detailed Itinerary of the 6 Days Marangu Route Hike

Day 1: Marangu Gate – Mandara Huts

You shall leave Moshi and drive for a period of an hour to the Marangu Gate. While here, you are offered hiking permits as well as taken through briefing on conduct when hiking the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. Day 3: Horombo Huts

Breakfast in the morning then spend a full day and a second night at Horombo Hut. You can choose to relax and rest at the huts or stroll up to the Mawenzi base camp where you leave to get back to the Horombo Huts. This extra day helps you acclimatize and give you further understanding of the mountain’s weather and altitude. After your pause, proceed up to the Kibo Huts on your fourth day for your midnight start to the summit.

Day 4: Horombo Huts – Kibo Huts

Enjoy breakfast then embark on hike for a period of 6 to 8 hours. You shall continue through decreasing heathland that blends into a moonscape as you access the sweeping saddle connecting the Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks. Break off here and have lunch then after proceed to traverse the vast saddle examining the summit hike up Kibo which starts in a few hours. Dinner and Overnight at Kibo Huts.

Day 5: Kibo Huts – Summit

Enjoy breakfast then embark on hike for 5 to 6 hours. This hike starts between midnight and 2:00 a.m hence requiring hikers to be mentally and physically ready due to the challenges it comes with like following through very steep terrain.

You shall proceed on hike to the summit in a switchback formation ensuring to stay warm and focused on reaching the highest point (Uhuru Peak). You shall follow through heavy scree and snow till you reach Gilman’s Point on the crater Rim. When you reach here, enjoy views of the beautiful sunrise as you shortly rest. The fast hikers view the sunrise from the summit. In an hour, you shall continue on hike till you reach Uhuru Peak encountering snow en-route.

Reach Uhuru Peak as the sun rises hitting the snow and take various photos to keep while at the highest point on Kilimanjaro as well as Africa.
