11 Days Kilimanjaro Trek and Wildebeest Migration Tour gives you exceptional adventures in Tanzania as you hike the majestic Mountain Kilimanjaro and watch the Great Wildebeest Migration at Serengeti National Park.
Detailed Itinerary of the 11 Days Kilimanjaro Trek and Wildebeest Migration Tour
Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania
On arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you are welcomed by our driver guide who takes you through a meet and greet session then transfer you to your hotel/ lodge in Moshi. After checking into your hotel, take the rest of the day to rest and acclimatize to the Tanzanian environment.
Day 2: Preparing for the Kilimanjaro Trek
Have early morning breakfast then proceed to meet the trekking team that includes guides, porters, and cooks. Have a comprehensive briefing about the upcoming climb about the different routes, gear, safety measures and what to expect along the way.
Afterwards, you’ll go over any final preparations and check your equipment before heading to the trailhead. Depending on the chosen route (the Marangu Route, Machame Route, or Lemosho Route), the day will conclude with your transfer to the starting point of your trek.
Day 3: Machame Route (or selected route) – Rainforest Zone
Your trek begins with a gradual climb through verdant rainforest. The dense canopy and diverse wildlife make this section incredibly scenic. You follow through dense forest watching monkeys and bird species then later go to your camp or huts for Dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Moorland Zone
As you ascend further, you’ll enter the moorland zone known to have tall grass, heather and volcanic rock formations. This section is more exposed, offering better views of the surrounding landscape.
Day 5: Alpine Desert Zone
The landscape becomes more barren, with rocky paths and expansive vistas. The air gets thinner, making the climb more challenging. Proper acclimatization is key during this phase to avoid altitude sickness.
Day 6: Summit Push – Barranco Camp to High Camp
This is one of the most demanding days of the trek. You’ll make your way to a higher altitude camp, resting and preparing for the final summit push.
Day 7: Summit Day – Uhuru Peak
The culmination of your trek: an early start (usually around midnight) to make your way to the summit. The final ascent is strenuous, but with the guidance of experienced mountain guides, you’ll reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Uhuru Peak, in time for sunrise.
Day 8: Descent and Travel to Serengeti
After reaching the summit, you’ll begin your descent, returning to your starting point and completing your Kilimanjaro trek. Descending from the high altitudes can take several hours, and you’ll spend the night either in a hotel or a lodge in Moshi.
Once you’ve rested, you’ll take a flight or a road transfer to the Serengeti National Park.
Day 9: Full Day Game Drive in Serengeti
After a restful night, you’ll begin your first full day in the Serengeti National Park. Your guide will take you on a game drive across the park to witness the dramatic landscapes and abundant wildlife like Wildebeest, zebras, elephants, giraffes, lions, cheetahs and other predators etc. Depending on the season and the specific timing of your visit, you may witness the wildebeest migration firsthand as the herds move across the plains in search of fresh grazing grounds.
Day 10: Wildebeest Migration – River Crossings & Predator Activity
Today will be one of the most exciting days of your trip, as you head to the heart of the wildebeest migration. If you visit during the right time (usually between July and September), you’ll witness the iconic river crossings, where the wildebeest brave the Mara River, teeming with crocodiles, as they continue their migration toward the Maasai Mara.
This is an excellent opportunity for photographers and wildlife enthusiasts to capture the raw intensity of nature at its most dramatic.
Day 11: Ngorongoro Crater – A Final Safari Day
On the final day of your trip, you’ll make your way to the Ngorongoro Crater which was formed by a collapsed volcano. It is home to one of the densest concentrations of wildlife in Africa with wildlife animals i.e the “Big Five” (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino) along with numerous other species.
You’ll have a full day to explore the crater, which offers incredible wildlife sightings against a dramatic backdrop of the crater walls.
